RIIHENMÄKI UPPER LEVEL SCHOOL, MÄNTSÄLÄ
Riihenmäki Upper Level School (13-15-year-olds) was completed in 1998 and the number of pupils is 350. The school was designed in accordance with the principle of the urban analogy, with squares, plazas, cafes, and “bars“. In the middle of the school is a large, open, flexible mediatheque and an events square.

In its curriculum the school focuses on communication interpreted broadly: the pupils learn to master all normal, modern forms of communication and also the means of expressive communication. Furthermore, the school invests significant resources in communication between home and school.

The building was designed by Arkkitehtitoimisto H & M Arkkitehdit, an architectural firm from Lahti.

Net area = 2,650 m2
(= 28,500 sq ft)

Net area / pupil = 7.6 m2
(= 82 sq ft)

Total cost including furniture and equipment ca. FIM 23.2 million = 3,419,000 USD
