UEF WORKSHOP AT COLUMBIA
UNIVERSITY November 7, 1998 Research Prepared by Dr. Lorraine Maxwell There were 7 people attending the Research group meeting. We talked about the lack of communications between researchers and designers; e.g., designers need descriptive research that often appears in case studies using qualitative data while researchers prefer quasi-experimental studies with quantitative data. We also talked about how to make research-based information available to designers. One of the tasks we thought this group could undertake is developing a list of sources that designers could tap for research information. For example, designers may not know which database to look for certain information . Providing this information is really helpful. It would take time and money to create this resource. We decided not to undertake any research ourselves at this point since the group is really not equipped to do so, but to explore ways to make existing environment-human behavior research more usable by designers. |
