The Bay School of San FranciscoIntroduction This conversion of a National Register Historic Landmark Army barracks into a start-up independent high school weaves together historic preservation, adaptive reuse and environmental responsibility, creating spaces that teach. Located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in the Presidio of San Francisco, the school offers a unique curriculum emphasizing the interrelationship of science, technology, ethics, and world religions. The original 1912 barracks building was converted to serve a maximum student body of 400 with a full compliment of educational spaces.
