Montcalm Community CollegeIntroduction The Local County and State of Michigan are facing major changes in the workforce over the next several years. The College must be prepared to retrain workers in the expanding fields of life sciences and health care. These fields have changed dramatically over the years and will continue to change in the near future; therefore, it was necessary to design flexible space for future program needs. This two-story, 22,000 square foot addition links two existing classroom/lab buildings. An important aspect was to include labs that can double as classrooms, collaboration and student gathering space that can easily subdivide into private study rooms, and circulation space that, when closed, can function as informal gathering spaces extending learning beyond classroom walls.
