Library Bench

The L!BRARY BENCH is the landmark element of the project. It provides a place for one or more groups of students to gather before entering the library. It also conveys and celebrates the identity of the library to passersby in the corridor and stairwell, and allows a high view into the interior that does not distract children on the platform inside. The hung perforated metal ceiling that extends into the corridor emphasizes the continuity of the space, alongside its definition as other and special. The impact of a relatively small amount of glass is enhanced by a continuous fluorescent tube behind the bench back, that illuminates the L!BRARY sign.
