Three Mile Creek ElementaryIntroduction This new elementary school is uniquely innovative in that it architecturally supports a project-based curriculum, utilizing multiple, flexible group activity spaces. The design incorporates “color-coded” classroom wings which simultaneously break the student population into small learning communities, provide a sense of identity for students, and act as a navigation tool for visitors. Inside, the building utilizes a playful water theme, with colors and flooring patterns that flow like the surrounding creek. Water creatures and plant life are etched on each classroom door light, providing an additional layer of identity for students. Enlivening the circulation spaces are artwork tiles created by students in the existing school while the new school was being constructed.
