Weymouth High SchoolIntroduction The town faced a relatively common problem that was solved with a unique solution; The objective to build a comprehensive High School, including vocational resources, exceeded the project budget. The Architect and the Town collaborated to develop a concept for a “campus” style plan, one that challenges common precepts of school organization. Limiting renovations to an existing facility to support part of the educational program reduced the requirements for new construction by half. By maintaining the two buildings structurally independent, the existing building could be adapted to meet program requirements, and made handicapped accessible, without triggering other cost thresholds for additional upgrades that would have made the project infeasible.
