York/Liverpool Elementary Schools
The initial project scope of work was to construct two identical elementary schools to replace two aged township facilities in a consolidated school district. Due to budget and schedule constraints, and faced with a dilemma that two acceptable sites could not be found, an alternative solution was developed. The final solution addressed issues and concerns of the community and school board.
Each township was provided with a separate but identical facility.
By sharing core facilities (dining, physical education, music, art, and media center) each elementary school received more than they would have on a separate site.
In addition to solving practical issues, the use of materials, color, and natural light provides an environment that supports the educational process.
