York Region School for Athletics and Healthy Active LivingImages
Third Floor PlanIn an effort to vertically link the school's athletic programming across all levels of the school, the third floor contains a double gymnasium that will be used exclusively for general physical education activities. It's location is purposefully separated from the two double gyms on the ground floor to ensure that athletic needs are met on a daily basis and uninterrupted by the expected programming demands of tournaments and other special events. General fitness for male and female students is also promoted on this floor level by the provision of a dedicated aerobics and dance studio. Nearby, a Communications Technology lab and the Physiology laboratory provide 'crossover' programming spaces where academic and athletic programs meet and reinforce each other. Capable of video production, the communication lab could be used to promote a healthy, active living initiative or serve as a studio for aspiring sports journalists. Similarly, the Physiology Lab can be used to study the kinetics of an individual athlete's performance or to conduct research for a health sciences paper.
